So what makes this app more than just bells and whistles? Simple augmenting a picture with pre-generated content is cool, but where's the creativity in that? The real power here is in the app's ability to recognize unique images, such as a student's art work or project page (see photo). Being able to turn a piece of art work into a video of the student who created it, that tells how the project was formed and what was learned, is truly powerful.
The app is not without its faults, and can be a little tricky for younger students to work with. Despite this, I think it is worth the effort. I'm in the early stages of planning an Augmented Art Gallery (ARt Gallery!) with Sprague's art teacher, which was inspired by Jason Ohler's AR creations. I'm excited to see how AR will transform our static art displays, and how the students will react!
